Our commitment
Zirrith Law wants this website to be usable by everyone, including visitors who use screen readers, magnification, speech input, or a keyboard rather than a mouse. We treat accessibility as part of maintaining the site, not as a one-time exercise.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines are the benchmark most commonly referenced in the United States for making web content accessible to people with disabilities.
What we have done
Recent work on this website has included the following, each verified by measurement rather than assumption:
- Text and interface colours checked against the contrast thresholds in WCAG 2.1, including text placed over photographs, which automated tools cannot evaluate.
- Every page reviewed with an automated accessibility engine at Level AA, on both a desktop and a phone-sized screen.
- Navigation, menus, and forms operable with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and no keyboard traps.
- Buttons, links, and form controls sized for comfortable use on a touchscreen.
- Pages laid out so they reflow without horizontal scrolling down to a 320-pixel-wide screen, and remain readable when text spacing is increased.
- Meaningful alternative text on images, decorative artwork marked as decorative, and one clear page heading per page.
- A slideshow on the home page that can be paused, that stops when it receives keyboard focus or the pointer, and that does not move at all when the operating system is set to reduce motion.
Known limitations
We would rather be straightforward about the gaps than claim more than we can support:
- Automated testing detects only a portion of accessibility problems. Testing with screen readers and other assistive technology is ongoing, and issues may remain that automated review does not surface.
- The site uses a third-party spam-prevention widget on its contact form. Its interface is controlled by that provider rather than by us.
- Some documents and images were carried over from the firm’s previous website and are still being reviewed.
We have not obtained a third-party accessibility certification, and no such certification is required by law. This statement describes our own testing and our intentions.
